Make-up Artist Born in Mexico Cancels Invite to Contest Winner Over Trump Tweet

Kat Von D is a make-up artist born in Mexico to Argentinian parents, now living in Los Angeles who’s been featured LA Ink, Pimp My Ride, even Tony Hawk’s skateboarding video game.

When she ran a recent contest, you wouldn’t have thought anything was out of the ordinary.

The battle between these two halves of identity…Who we are and who we pretend to be, is unwinnable. "Just as there are two sides to every story, there are two sides to every person. One that we reveal to the world and another we keep hidden inside. A duality governed by the balance of light and darkness, within each of us is the capacity for both good and evil. But those who are able to blur the moral dividing line hold the true power. -Emily Thorne

But when followers unearthed a Trump supporting tweet from the winner, it posed an issue for Kat who remembers growing up ” a child, running around barefoot in Mexico with dirt under my fingernails and frogs in my pockets…”

She wrote to the winner via direct message on instagram:

“I’ve drawn a personal line in the sand between myself and anyone who supports that man… My launch party [and my brand] celebrates many things that Trump is against…And I just need you to know that I personally have a hard time with inviting anyone who would support such an anti-feminist, anti-homosexual/LGBT, anti-immigrant, and anti-climate change fascist such as Trump.”

The contest winner who got the disinvite said,  it’s “really unfortunate” that politics was brought into an art contest “where I never brought it into the art contest.”

But we say that more business owners should be “drawing a personal line.” There’s nothing pretty about supporting a fascist.
