Kat Von D is a make-up artist born in Mexico to Argentinian parents, now living in Los Angeles who’s been featured LA Ink, Pimp My Ride, even Tony Hawk’s skateboarding video game.
When she ran a recent contest, you wouldn’t have thought anything was out of the ordinary.
But when followers unearthed a Trump supporting tweet from the winner, it posed an issue for Kat who remembers growing up ” a child, running around barefoot in Mexico with dirt under my fingernails and frogs in my pockets…”
She wrote to the winner via direct message on instagram:
“I’ve drawn a personal line in the sand between myself and anyone who supports that man… My launch party [and my brand] celebrates many things that Trump is against…And I just need you to know that I personally have a hard time with inviting anyone who would support such an anti-feminist, anti-homosexual/LGBT, anti-immigrant, and anti-climate change fascist such as Trump.”
The contest winner who got the disinvite said, it’s “really unfortunate” that politics was brought into an art contest “where I never brought it into the art contest.”
But we say that more business owners should be “drawing a personal line.” There’s nothing pretty about supporting a fascist.
