Mijente’s Leadership Circle (LC) plays an important role in steering our organization’s direction – and is made up of key members, advisors, and movement leaders. Over the past several years, the current Leadership Circle members supported crucial decision making and strategic planning.
Now, the time has come to revamp and reset the Leadership Circle. This year we are excitedly transitioning to a new Leadership Circle formation, opening the way for new inputs and stewardship. If you meet the requirements, we encourage you to apply! Below you can learn more about the work of the Leadership Circle and the requirements for new members.
The Work of the Current LC
As key achievements, the LC developed a five year vision following the 2020 election, designed various political endorsement processes, and has been a critical sounding board for our annual convenings of Sazonblea and Lánzate. LC members play critical roles inside different sectors and in their localities and this insight has opened many new opportunities. We owe this group of people who have served, including some of whom have done so since the formation of this group in 2017, a great deal of gratitude.
We’ve done reflections with current LC members and staff and have a new format we want to share and are opening it up for current members to apply to serve on the Leadership Circle. Here you’ll find information on what it entails and how to apply.
Leadership Circle Structure
The Leadership Circle will be composed of up to 25 people and meet quarterly at a regular time and day based on the majority of the group’s schedule of availability. Additionally, the LC will meet in person once a year. It will be a space for both input and discussion on Mijente’s direction as well as a space of learning and development of analysis. Meetings can include: featured speakers on identified topics, sharing from folks involved in different aspects of Mijente’s work and discussions on areas of the LC’s decision making and/or needed input.
Leadership Circle Responsibilities
Decisions made by the Leadership Circle include all political endorsements, location and goals/focus of Sazonblea and input on the goals/focus of major convenings. In addition the LC will help develop and formally approve the multi-year objectives of Mijente. LC members will receive advance notice and accessible notes of past and upcoming meetings as well as regular updates. There may also be opportunities to represent Mijente in larger coalitions and/or movement convenings.
Requirements to Apply
- Must have been a Mijente member for at least two years
- Must be a participating member (determined by attendance to events, recruitment of members, participation in organizational calls, volunteering, engagement on social media)
- Must have the availability to attend planned Leadership Circle meetings
- Must have some familiarity with Mijente’s principles of unity and our work
Applications will be accepted until June 27th. We’ll host conversations with interested folks and will make a decision in early July. The new LC will convene in person in August or September as we gear up for Mijente’s 10 year anniversary and Sazonblea this October in Chicago.
